So i was googling some thing up for some thing i was trying to build. And stumbled upon this forum . And I was totally thrown off by the way that annoying “Login/Register” box stays on the screen.
Please if you are developing a website/forum do not put pop-ups at all, if you have no choice but to, please do make sure each user has the ability to “Close” the darn pop up. Else what will happen ? Well the same would happen as what happened to above forum, loose possible constant visitor/reader, and maybe source of potential revenue.
So, if you are new to website business, pop ups might look attractive to have users attention but there are other ways to get attention. And if pop up is the way to go for your needs do make sure they are closable by the end user.
Another things you must keep in mind which most “Newbies” make would be to put an auto loading music player on site. Thinking its cool to have music running in background while users are browsing the site. Thats a big no no, never have a “Music Player” on loading page of the website or any page for that fact, that starts “playing” on page load.
Why should the player not be set to auto play ? Well guess what ? Everyone has certain volume level setup for their computer, and if someone is browsing your site in a conference or some meeting and they get hit by the “boombox” you setup on your site. It looks really bad, and first reaction is to close the “site” and never go back to it if they do not have time to muck around with their volume settings so that its not annoying for anyone else while browsing your site.
So if you were to put a “Music Player” make sure the volume level is set to really really low, and does not have on page load a shockingly loud music pop up. And make sure the Music Player is visible clearly on the page, so users can stop the music and also turn down or turn up the sound if they like. Giving more options to visitors is always a good thing when developing a website.
There are few other things which i will post about later. But for now those 2 annoying things must never be done to a website. I will probably make a series, consisting of various tips for new webmasters that should be avoided and those things that are required for a website to be successfull. I am no expert however, but still can offer others what i have learnt so far from my own mistakes and experiences in this web industry.

Seems like my somewhat ignored project known as the JustRandomBullshit (forums mostly) has gone down the bullshit road !! IF you dare to go there, you be greated with billions of links to “Porn” especially GAY or LESBIAN porn. Sheesh…
Whats even funnier is that there are threads being created and also being “RATED” . Now thats one smart BOT that can rate a thread also. I am assuming its a work of some spammer (a human one that is) . I am going to put some google analytics tracking on it, and see whats happening and if they are real spammers or just bots that are into Gay or Lesbian porn .
I never knew there could be so much spam possible, maybe the forum will be the worlds biggest board of spam and porn one day. I want to look at traffic trends so i am off to install tracking on the forums.
Guess whats the size of database backup after compression. The database is like 50 MB in size. Now thats a lot of spam at work !!

Installing SSL certificate on your domain is simple process, but like everything first time is always the toughest. So to make it easy here are simple steps to get your SSL certificate installed on your domain xyz.com say for example.
First you need to assign an IP to your xyz.com domain via your control panel ( i am assuming its Cpanel and tutorial is for Cpanel users, other panels might have different steps). So lets assign 12.12.12.12 ip to your xyz.com . Please note SSL does not work if there is no dedicated ip allocated to the domain. So make sure you got an ip assigned to your domain and is not shared with any other domain. If you want www.xyz.com assign ip to that domain, as ssl treats www.xyz.com differently than xyz.com, so if you install certificate for domain xyz.com it wont work for https://www.xyz.com so you will need to decide beforehand, and do .htaccess redirect accordingly if you wish. For our example we going to install SSL on xyz.com domain/hostname . Please note 12.12.12.12 is just some arbitrary ip, use your ip you have at hand .
Now after above step is done. Lets get SSL installed. Steps are simple for SSL installation.
Step 1. Go to Cpanel>SSL/TLS Manager , you will see these options there :
Private Keys (KEY)
Generate, view, upload, or delete your private keys.
Certificate Signing Requests (CSR)
Generate, view, or delete SSL certificate signing requests.
Certificates (CRT)
Generate, view, upload, or delete SSL certificates.
Activate SSL on Your Web Site (HTTPS)
Setup a SSL certificate to work with your site.
Step 2. Click on Generate, view, upload, or delete your private keys. On the page you see next look at bottom of page it will have something like Generate a new Key with Host xyz.com or Dropdown, right below it. You can enter your domain xyz.com here or use dropdown, and click Generate. It will give you a text with —–BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY—– at top and —–END RSA PRIVATE KEY—– at bottom , copy completly including —–BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY—– and —–END RSA PRIVATE KEY—– to some text file. Not required though as you can look at it later by hitting “Show Details” option if you go to Private Keys area again, it will show it beside your domain name.

Hiyall,
Its tad annoying seeing that after you purchase the Suite, and you are so used to working on Windows 2003 instead of Windows Xp, that the installer on the DVD does not let you install Photoshop CS3 and Illustrator CS3 on Windows 2003. Googled up the issue, and here is only solution that worked really well for me.
Steps to install Photoshop & Illustrator on Windows 2003 are :
1. Install using DVD other components, like Dreamweaver etc.
2. Now go to Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\498b43b77cac072081a5692bfc52804 (please note the big number there will be different than what you see, depending on computer to computer i suppose.
3. Now open up the payloads folder you see in above folder. Edit AdobePhotoshop10en_US.proxy.xml found in folder : AdobePhotoshop10en_US , and go to very bottom of file (use wordpad or notepad) and Change: “Server2003″:{“Exclude“:true},” to “Server2003″:{“Require“:true},” . So bascially you are just changing Exclude to Require , which does the trick, save and close file.
4. Now open up AdobeIllustrator13en_US.proxy.xml in AdobeIllustrator13en_US folder (which is inside the same payloads folder), and again do the same as did in step 3 above aka , change exclude to require.
5. Now use the setup.exe file to execute the installer, and now you can see a tick box not-greyed out no more beside the components you wish to install, like Illustrator and Photoshop or anything else that was greyed and used the steps 2-4 accordingly.
Hopefully that helps all you windows 2003 lovers and users, and adobe users. Not sure why Adobe has that block on use of their purchased product on Windows 2003. Well the trick above worked nice and both Photoshop Cs3 and Illustrator Cs3 are now installed on my Windows 2003 R2 32 bit server edition.
Enjoy !!

So, i have a server with Volumedrive for few months now, and have heard that Jeff and Josh are really hard working fellas. Well not sure if what you hear on the web can be true these days, but how about pictures ? A picture is worth thousands words.
 Jeff at Volumedrive
What you are seeing in picture is Jeff working hard inside the datacenter to make sure servers are working 24/7. Picture was provided by Josh from Volumedrive, and i heard jeff has picture of josh, at work in similar fashion. So when you got a crew like that to look after your servers who needs another provider !! From what i hear, either Jeff or Josh can be found in above pose at 4 am in the morning at datacenter every night/morning.
No wonder they do not have a house to sleep in, when datacenter acts as their little cove. They probably end up spending 20 out of 24 hrs inside the datacenter, it must really have a state of arts washroom facility too !!
NOTE to JEFF: Heard of a thing called Energy Drink!!
