Quitting facebook today are you? Ever thought of actually spending some time say like 5 mins… (took me only 5 mins.) to modify my facebook privacy settings. Or would you rather join the quitters league and say bye bye to facebook ? If personally I was Joseph or Milan instead of asking everyone to quit, I rather be helping everyone better understand how to keep their facebook profiles private and for friends only and no even for “Friends of Friends”, facebook does have options to disallow friends of friends from seeing your photos, wall posts , relationship status and what not. Not many I think are aware that you have privacy setting to even disable your friends looking at your friends list, it could be made viewable only for yourself. For this option just go to Account>Privacy Settings > Friends, Tags and Connections and there for Friends options select from dropdown Custom, and in there you can specify who should be able to see you friends, say xyz or abc friends only or just yourself. Not that hard to understand how privacy settings work.

There are lots of other options available too to keep your important profile details private. If we were only smart enough to understand the working of facebook, and use it wisely the day for quitting facebook would not be required. I am not a big fan of facebook myself, but it has helped me at times connecting with friends when I needed to. IF you are too scared of your personal information being on the web, well what made you join facebook in the first place? And if you are putting your bank information and other personal details are just too freaking personal well sorry to say this but you might as call yourself a web idiot. Did you know on facebooks signup page, you can just fudge the details if you wish to just have a facebook page ? Who is going to sue you for fudging the details that facebook asks? Facebook is not a site where you need to have correct information. You can always ask your friends to find you on facebook by certain keyword or details that you fudged into facebook. IF you are concerned about email address, well yahoo,gmail and other email provides give you options to make accounts (again can have fake info there too) to make free email addresses. For example I just signed up on facebook using fake information and some email address that I use only for spam collection and for such sites that require your email address. Guess what I just signed up on facebook with ID : James Bondy, sadly facebook did not let me join as James Bond . Feel free to add me on your facebook account and check out the tight privacy control settings I have set in place.

Above is just an example, if you enjoy the facebook games and want to just get updates of your friends, there is not another better way than to “make up” a facebook profile and start adding the friends you know of and let them know who you are so they do not deny the request J.
Feel free to look at the video, it shows you basic settings for privacy options that should help protect your profile from prying eyes. But do note this id might get deleted by Facebook if they care about collecting real information. If not go ahead and add James Bondy (with college / school selected as Random and location as London UK ) I shall put an E as my Profile Picture to distinguish my id from the rest.

Google PacMan who would have ever thought of that one ?

Update: Google PacMan logo does not work on iPhone ! Hmm.. i did imagine it would work, but asked a friend to try using his iphone to browse googel. Sadly, no pacman ! O well… that is one reason why one should always be a proud owner of a PC .

Good thing google did not make a “insert coin” here slot, that would be hard to implement with current technologies.

So, if you are sending a common email out to bunch of people please for the sake of every one’s privacy do not use TO field use BCC field instead, and in the TO field insert undisclosed recipients or if that is too hard just insert your email address in there.

I have been a victim of those sending bulk emails to random people and using the TO field instead of BCC . By the way BCC = Blank Carbon Copy for those who do not understand the terminology and CC = Carbon Copy (do not use this either as it will be show still to the end users )

So please respect the privacy of individuals and help them fight spam in their inbox by adopting the proper method for sending emails. I learned it the hard way, let’s hope its not too late for you !

Other things not to do when sending such emails is : “Forgetting to actually insert any message” and than sending another set of bulk emails say “Ooopps” and third one with the actual message. Some do not have time to check their emails that often and they usually skim over most email.

One more thing, make sure when using a newsletter script to use BCC over CC or TO. Most do not realize this that some newsletter script might send bulk emails using the TO field.

So, it’s now a week or so since i joined freelancer, and I have seen pretty crazy projects that actually someone is willing to do ? Ok let me give you some examples :

Someone asking for geniune email accounts (nothing randomly created) and usable email accounts for $30, nothing strange there you might be thinking ? Well how does the number of 2000 sound to you ? That’s right users asking for 2000 email accounts, nothing that looks like abc1 , abc2 etc etc. real non botish looking emails, 2000 in total for $30. On top of that, guess what is the time limit for project to be completed ?48 HOURS ! Talk about employing Superman  for $30/48 hrs or $0.6/hr rate

It’s not done yet hold on what’s this, o if you guessed a Bidder, than you win (—–insert your imaginary prize here i suppose —) ! 3 bidders in total willing to work on the project, now personally i could not achieve that goal within 48 hours maybe 10×48 hours , depending on the username availablity of when gmail,yahoo or other emails figure out that i am trying to make too many acounts with them

Freelancer = outsourcing it seems like today. No one willing to pay handsomely for their projects and above all no one will to hire anyone without “ratings” even when they offer them free services, I have offered like 5 free services for 5 jobs, but nope they pick somone with rating. My goal these days is to get on the board and get some rating, so if anyone reading this blog post, got some job related to the web and freelancer account (or not don’t really matter) give me a shout, so instead of watching tube and killing time can actually do more projects and enjoy the extra cash (i guess to do more projects one can use better and faster pc or maybe bigger 42 inch lcd screen —that be sweet now )

Happy bidding to those on Freelancer, but seriously guys give those noobs with no reviews a chance atleast when they willing to do the job for no charge ! Shows the level of trust one has in this competitive world

UPDATE: Great exhausted all my bids for the month offered out of those 30 bids 5 to 10 to work for no charge but review . Sadly no return,  what has world come to ? Who says no to “Free stuff” ! Anyways will search more next month, for this month i guess i am done, not going to pay $15 fee for gold membership = unlimited bidding a month ( nice money leeching method). Will google more for such sites i suppose, maybe try ebay lol ?

Came back home feeling tired and a sore throat at around 5 pm, for had to walk home that day cause the car was in the shop. It was around that time noticed the drip from the roof up top, coming from what appears to have been a crack in the ceiling even before I started  living in the apartment.  Yes I live on the top floor of a really old apartment. Had no choice back in 2008 when I was evicted from an apartment that was to be turned in Condo! Those living in Saskatoon are aware of the crazy condo conversions of apartments that took place. Where I was living before was one of those apartments to be converted to condo. The year was crazy and was hard to find an apartment.  Moved in around October, 2008 to this what appears to be 100 year old apartment.

The crack in the ceiling had always made me wonder as to its existence’s reason. Phoned the building manager at around 5o5 to be told only he will get hold of someone. When the single drop turned to 5 in number, phoned the manager again only to find out no phone calls were made by him. This shows how much an apartment manager cares about their tenants; he has been the worst manager I had to put up with, even when the rent gets paid on time. In one and a half hour it starts pouring inside through various cracks in the ceiling. What once was a drop was now a stream, frustrated to see no manager on the door or anyone to come look and try to do some quick fix, rang his phone again only to be told yet again he has not cared to phone anyone yet. In the call before he tried to convince me that it could take a month or more for roof to be fixed, and in 10 minutes nothing can be done, which is quite understandable, but now more than two and a half hour later, listening to the same broken record attempted yet again to persuade the manager to send someone atleast with bunch of buckets to prevent floor damage. By 7.30 someone came with bucket in hand, by that time there were not one but close to 3 to 4 places that were starting to pour. One bucket would do no good so she made few phone calls to get someone over to drill a hole to get drain the pool of water in the ceiling. Will have to check the pictures to get the exact time frame of when someone came to drill a hole in the centre of the crack.

Took 10 minutes and half a bucket to stop the pouring and I was given the warning: ceiling will collapse later tonight and there is nothing stopping that. Around 10pm I sit down to have my supper finally.

Keep awake till 2 in the morning trying to get some sleep, to no surprise hear the thud in the living room. Rush to see how much has fallen, only to escape narrowly another piece of falling ceiling. Two pieces down, few more to go before it stops raining ceiling pieces. Moved some furniture around and removed the glass from the coffee table and put the table in the halfway outside.  I go online and let me supervisor at work know I won’t be in the morning, maybe not till Monday of next week, for I had no idea what the landlord would be telling me in the morning. Would I need to find a new apartment or could still live in the same one while repairs are done were the thoughts as I lay in the bed attempting to sleep.

3.30 and another thud, did not bother to check the damage and maybe around 4.30 fell asleep.  At 8.30 came the landlord looking all shocked and got on the phone to get someone to look and possibly fix the roof up top and said someone will come to remove the falling plaster from the ceiling and will have to wait for a month or 3 till its dry and safe to redo the ceiling. So that is how this week has been, I hope yours was a better one.

It’s now 1o10 in the noon and stomach asking for food, but nothing to be had for I am stuck in the shop waiting for the Axle to be replaced, for only on Monday it has started squeaking while doing turns. Had same issue in 2006 with the squeaking and I saw this coming.  It cost back than around 230$ and was told by someone that it’s amazing the Axle on this neon (FWD) lasted that long J. Either ways when I get back home going to copy this post from my word to the blog and upload some pictures of the ceiling.

Back home now, with a bill of 279$ for the car repairs in hand and news of some quick fix done to roof, and need to wait for a month or more for the insulation in the ceiling to dry before getting it mended. Pictures I am editing and will be uploaded for viewers pleasure. The car drove bit smoother I feel, AXLE was replaced and so was the trans. axle fluid as the one inside was all brown/black and in bad state i was told. Well atleast dont need the Right outer CV Boot as mentioned by other shop.

And those who are trying to connect to server that uses domain based windows authentication simply create a shortcut as below to the SQLwb file and it will ask you to login with your network id and connect to server as if you are connection via domain and using windows authentication.

Either ways, I had the opportunity to try out DS300 from Nikon (darn expensive camera ) here are like 2 shots i taken so far, will try to take more shots and see if am any good with taking photos with expensive cameras, i know my photography skills with cheapos ain’t that great.
