Nokia BH-105 Driver for Windows 7 64 bit

Bought Nokia BH-105 to be able to use my pc and gmail to make phone calls since google extended the free phone via gmail/google for another year or so. The headset is what its suppose to be small… usable… and hands free device.

Anyways had problems making the device talk to my Windows 7 (64 bit) because of driver issues, windows tries to install the drivers but they do not work. Download the driver for nokia bh-105 headset below , unzip it and browse to the folder when searching for driver on local drive. Worked like a charm without any issues. Now have bluetooth enabled headset that will work with Skype, Yahoo or Google voice/call etc..

Happy new year to everyone since this is my first post for 2011.

Download Nokia BH-105 Driver for Windows 7 64 bit.

Update: Added 32 Bit drivers as well for Nokia BH-105 incase someone is using Windows 7 32 bit still.

Things not to do when sending bulk emails

Just fed up with people who send out emails with the to field populated with tons of email addresses and your address being one of them. That is how spam spreads in ones inbox !

So, if you are sending a common email out to bunch of people please for the sake of every one’s privacy do not use TO field use BCC field instead, and in the TO field insert undisclosed recipients or if that is too hard just insert your email address in there.

I have been a victim of those sending bulk emails to random people and using the TO field instead of BCC . By the way BCC = Blank Carbon Copy for those who do not understand the terminology and CC = Carbon Copy (do not use this either as it will be show still to the end users )

So please respect the privacy of individuals and help them fight spam in their inbox by adopting the proper method for sending emails. I learned it the hard way, let’s hope its not too late for you !

Other things not to do when sending such emails is : “Forgetting to actually insert any message” and than sending another set of bulk emails say “Ooopps” and third one with the actual message. Some do not have time to check their emails that often and they usually skim over most email.

One more thing, make sure when using a newsletter script to use BCC over CC or TO. Most do not realize this that some newsletter script might send bulk emails using the TO field.

If as a reader of this post you have experienced this kind of situation do share your experience and tips too that will help reduce global spamming of in-boxes.

Ceiling Goes Thud – Roof Disaster

I type this post sitting in a car repair shop. On mind are the repair costs and thoughts about the roof/ceiling that has collapsed! This week has been really crazy that which will be hard to forget.  Imagine staying awake or being kept awake by crumbling roof? Every hour there would be a loud thud in the living room with another bit off the top.  So, what is this post about, car repair costs or the roof disaster? Well I will bore you with car repair stuff maybe at the end; let me tell you with pictures as to what happened yesterday evening!

Came back home feeling tired and a sore throat at around 5 pm, for had to walk home that day cause the car was in the shop. It was around that time noticed the drip from the roof up top, coming from what appears to have been a crack in the ceiling even before I started  living in the apartment.  Yes I live on the top floor of a really old apartment. Had no choice back in 2008 when I was evicted from an apartment that was to be turned in Condo! Those living in Saskatoon are aware of the crazy condo conversions of apartments that took place. Where I was living before was one of those apartments to be converted to condo. The year was crazy and was hard to find an apartment.  Moved in around October, 2008 to this what appears to be 100 year old apartment.

The crack in the ceiling had always made me wonder as to its existence’s reason. Phoned the building manager at around 5o5 to be told only he will get hold of someone. When the single drop turned to 5 in number, phoned the manager again only to find out no phone calls were made by him. This shows how much an apartment manager cares about their tenants; he has been the worst manager I had to put up with, even when the rent gets paid on time. In one and a half hour it starts pouring inside through various cracks in the ceiling. What once was a drop was now a stream, frustrated to see no manager on the door or anyone to come look and try to do some quick fix, rang his phone again only to be told yet again he has not cared to phone anyone yet. In the call before he tried to convince me that it could take a month or more for roof to be fixed, and in 10 minutes nothing can be done, which is quite understandable, but now more than two and a half hour later, listening to the same broken record attempted yet again to persuade the manager to send someone atleast with bunch of buckets to prevent floor damage. By 7.30 someone came with bucket in hand, by that time there were not one but close to 3 to 4 places that were starting to pour. One bucket would do no good so she made few phone calls to get someone over to drill a hole to get drain the pool of water in the ceiling. Will have to check the pictures to get the exact time frame of when someone came to drill a hole in the centre of the crack.

Took 10 minutes and half a bucket to stop the pouring and I was given the warning: ceiling will collapse later tonight and there is nothing stopping that. Around 10pm I sit down to have my supper finally.

Keep awake till 2 in the morning trying to get some sleep, to no surprise hear the thud in the living room. Rush to see how much has fallen, only to escape narrowly another piece of falling ceiling. Two pieces down, few more to go before it stops raining ceiling pieces. Moved some furniture around and removed the glass from the coffee table and put the table in the halfway outside.  I go online and let me supervisor at work know I won’t be in the morning, maybe not till Monday of next week, for I had no idea what the landlord would be telling me in the morning. Would I need to find a new apartment or could still live in the same one while repairs are done were the thoughts as I lay in the bed attempting to sleep.

3.30 and another thud, did not bother to check the damage and maybe around 4.30 fell asleep.  At 8.30 came the landlord looking all shocked and got on the phone to get someone to look and possibly fix the roof up top and said someone will come to remove the falling plaster from the ceiling and will have to wait for a month or 3 till its dry and safe to redo the ceiling. So that is how this week has been, I hope yours was a better one.

It’s now 1o10 in the noon and stomach asking for food, but nothing to be had for I am stuck in the shop waiting for the Axle to be replaced, for only on Monday it has started squeaking while doing turns. Had same issue in 2006 with the squeaking and I saw this coming.  It cost back than around 230$ and was told by someone that it’s amazing the Axle on this neon (FWD) lasted that long J. Either ways when I get back home going to copy this post from my word to the blog and upload some pictures of the ceiling.

Back home now, with a bill of 279$ for the car repairs in hand and news of some quick fix done to roof, and need to wait for a month or more for the insulation in the ceiling to dry before getting it mended. Pictures I am editing and will be uploaded for viewers pleasure. The car drove bit smoother I feel, AXLE was replaced and so was the trans. axle fluid as the one inside was all brown/black and in bad state i was told. Well atleast dont need the Right outer CV Boot as mentioned by other shop.

Canadian Citizenship Exam Cleared !

It’s finally over cleared my Citizenship Exam and hoping to take the oath to be proud Canadian soon. A day of studying the guide and 5 minutes to finish the exam.

For those taking the new Canadian Citizenship exam here is the format:

1. There will be 20 multiple choice question (on paper, no computer based exam)

2. You must answer 15 correctly that is 75% you must get right.

3. Must answer 2 specific question correctly (else its a fail and out of 4 other question must get atleast 2 right) so in total about 4 questions they specify must be answered correctly.

4. Usually a 30 minute exam.

Note : You must read the book thoroughly though, there were as i talked to few other folks some common sense questions and some that you probably cannot answer if you have not read the booklet (Discover Canada: the Rights and Responsibilities ). Also there are probably 3 different sets of exams, so the person beside you will probably have a different question paper than you, and by that its not just rearranged questions but actually different questions. Mine i think was the easiest, or atleast found it rather easy, probably got 19/20 only had doubt on one question.

Oath ceremony probably in 2 weeks time. So an exciting day today 🙂 .  Good luck to those taking the exam in few weeks time, don’t sweat if you managed to go through the booklet atleast once. Did not have many questions relating to dates as such, but still a good thing to remember what happened in 1812 and 1867 :).

Cow – Warning ! Contains Deadly Humor – You have been Warned !

Even before I could finish the first 2 lines of this email I received from a friend of mine, I rushed here to post it for, it is worth the posting and I must warn you if you know English will end up rolling on the floor laughing by the time you are done reading it 🙂 It was suppose to be for some IAS exam but dunno if that is really true. But IAS exam stands for Indian Administrative Service Exam. Anyways google it up for more details… wont bore you any further continue reading …

You’ll forget English by the time you finish reading this. This is a true essay written by a Bihari candidate at the UPSC (IAS) Examinations. The candidate has written an essay on the Indian cow:

Indian Cow

HE IS THE COW. “The cow is a successful animal. Also he is 4 footed, And because he is female, he give milks, [but will do so when he is got child]. He is same like God, sacred to Hindus and useful to man. But he has got four legs together. Two are forward and two are afterwards. His whole body can be utilized for use. More so the milk. Milk comes from 4 taps attached to his basement.

[Horses don’t have any such attachment] What can it do? Various ghee, butter, cream, curd, why and the condensed milk and so forth. Also he is useful to cobbler, waterman’s and mankind generally. His motion is slow only because he is of lazy species, Also his other motion.. gober* is much useful to trees, plants as well as for making flat cakes [like Pizza], in hand and drying in the sun.

Cow is the only animal that extricates his feeding after eating. Then afterwards she chews with his teeth that are situated in the inside of the mouth. He is incessantly in the meadows in the grass. His only attacking and defending organ is the horns, especially so when he is got child. This is done by knowing his head whereby he causes the weapons to be paralleled to the ground of the earth and instantly proceed with great velocity forwards. He has got tails also, situated in the backyard, but not like similar animals. It has hairs on the other end of the other side. This is done to frighten away the files.

The palms of his feet are soft unto the touch. So the grasses head is not crushed. At night time have poses by looking down on the ground and he shouts. His eyes and nose are like his other relatives. This is the cow……

We are informed that the candidate passed the exam, and is now an IAS, somewhere in Bihar.

NOTE: This is an article about english and how it works 🙂 and not about Cows 🙂

*PS: ‘Gobar’ = Bullshit basically !

Sophos going downhill – or Sophos Vs Microsoft Security Essentials [Is Sophos any Good ?]

Sophos going downhill or Sophos vs Microsoft Security Essentials – which title suits this post i am not too sure but anyways read on and be the judge of that yourself !
At work both as a student and employee at the university we are suppose to be using Sophos for virus and Trojan protection… but I have had few notify me that sophos is failing to deliver… Windows Security Essentials (MSE codename Morro) is beating down hard on Sophos. .. More about the Security Essentials can be read from and also downloaded free of cost if I am not mistaken via :

Since, I run XP 64 bit I am not able to try it out myself cause it does not apparently have an installer for that version of XP. It’s rather limited to XP 32 bit, Win 7 32/64 bit only. If it was just one person saying that “o windows essentials thingy found Trojan and malware that were not detected by sophos” I be more speculative about the situation, but I have about 3 or 4 users, all very well versed with computers and some quite versed with computer security, not afraid to say out loud “ Sophos Failed “ .

Looking around on the web, I read a rather interesting article at softpedia, stating this very interesting find [“With a detection rate of 56%, Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0 managed to grab the fifth position, along with F-Secure, which delivered a similar performance. Only five products bested MSE, namely ESET NOD32 with a detection rate of 60%, Kaspersky with 64%, G Data with 66%, and Avira with 74%. However, at the same time, Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0 also delivered a very low number of false positives.

MSE mistook no more than 15 legitimate code samples for malware, while not the same can be said of Avira, Sophos, McAfee, TrustPort, Norman, and Kingsoft, which all had in excess of 15 false positives. This is why MSE received the highest possible certification from AV-Comparatives, along with additional security solutions that balanced a high detection rate with a low number of false positives. “] – source

Now reading that article it was no surprise to me that users were coming to me complaining about how “Sophos Sucks” compared to MSE. It’s funny how Sophos wrote an article about Vulnerabilites in Windows 7 stating  “Lesson learned? You still need to run anti-virus on Windows 7. Microsoft, in the Microsoft Security Intelligence Report released yesterday, stated that “The infection rate of Windows Vista SP1 was 61.9 percent less than that of Windows XP SP3.” – source . At the end of the article Sophos had a very nice conclusion:
